The 500-year enslavement of Roma in territories of contemporary Romania is a silenced chapter in European history and is consequently hardly addressed in education across Europe. In this presentation, we will establish the status quo for Roma slavery education in Romania, and discuss dilemmas related to the implementation of slavery education in Romania and beyond. Drawing on literature on slavery education in the USA, and interviews with educational stakeholders in Romania, we will propose guidelines for the development of teaching content and methods.
