From 10 to 13 December 2024, the Council of Europe’s Roma and Traveller Division in cooperation with the Department for the Execution of Judgements of the European Court of Human Rights, the Government Agent of Hungary to the ECtHR and with Hungarian policing authorities organised a training of trainers based on the Toolkit for Police Officers focusing on Council of Europe standards on racially motivated crimes and non-discrimination.
The training brought together police officers from across the country, working on the specific issue of hate crimes, including racially motivated crimes against Roma.
Policing modern societies, combatting racially motivated crimes and upholding human rights are three challenges that police are confronted with on a daily basis. The Council of Europe training aims to inform participants about the latest developments in human rights practice and standards and to improve their skills in applying them in their everyday work.
The underlying objective of the training is to promote the uniform application of Council of Europe standards on racially motivated crimes throughout the Council of Europe member States.
Any Council of Europe member State may request assistance from the Council of Europe in improving the policing of Roma and Traveller communities through law enforcement training and capacity building.
