Mer än 50 sökande fick Journalism Excellence Awards i fyra kategorier. Listan över nominerade finns nedan. Vinnarna kommer att tillkännages den 18 juni 2024 i Strasbourg.
The EQUIROM Secretariat and Roma and Travellers Division are thrilled to announce the winners of the Journalists Excellence Awards 2024 in five categories.
A remarkable number of outstanding applications were received, demonstrating the exceptional talent and dedication within the journalism profession, and highlighting the importance of responsible reporting that objectively addresses human rights and dignity, racism and antigypsyism issues.
The Jury has awarded the following candidates for their exemplary work and decided to give special mentions to acknowledge additional merits:
Category: Best Interview
- Winner: Gilda-Nancy Horvath (Austria)
- Special mention: Olena Kryvenko (Ukraine) and Paula Szewczyk (Poland)
Category: Global Event
- Winner: Anna Alboth (Poland)
Category: Investigative Journalism
- Winner: Rodothea Seralidou (Germany)
- Special mention: Ana-Maria Ciobanu (Romania)
Category: Photojournalism
- Winner: Achilleas Chiras (Greece)
Category: Young Journalists
- Winner: Yana Radchenko (Ukraine)
The Jury extends heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and the shortlisted candidates and acknowledges all applicants for their incredible submissions.
In total, more than 50 applications were received. The Jury carefully examined each submission based on its quality, regardless of the nationality of the applicant. All the shortlisted applications for the Journalism Excellence Awards can be viewed below.

- Mircea TOMA – psychologist, journalist, human rights activist and member of the National Audiovisual Council of Romania
- Robert SCHWARTZ, journalist and writer
- Eleni TSETSEKOU, Head of Division, Council of Europe Roma and Travellers Division
- Dan DOGHI, Team Leader, Non-Discrimination: Anti-Racism and Roma coordination Unit, DG Justice and Consumers at European Commission
The winners will be invited to the Awards ceremony, on 18 June 2024 in Strasbourg at the Council of Europe. The Journalism Excellence Awards were launched in all the Council of Europe member States, under the Joint EU/CoE programme “Equality and Freedom from Discrimination for Roma” (EQUIROM) with the aim of combatting stereotypes in the media, raising awareness about the history and culture of Roma and other ethnic minorities, contributing to building positive narratives about Roma by journalists and other media representatives, ultimately driving a change in people’s perception.
