Exhibition Opening: Friday, May 16 2025, 18:30

ERIAC Art Space | Reinhardtstraße 41-43, Berlin

This exhibition draws upon the deep knowledge embedded within ERIAC and builds on the seminal research commissioned by the Tom Lantos Institute, in cooperation with Heidelberg University and the Documentation and Cultural Centre of German Sinti and Roma, conducted between 2015 and 2017 under the leadership of Timea Junghaus. This research marked a paradigmatic shift in how we understand the history of the Roma Holocaust.

For decades, Roma were excluded from official Holocaust narratives—erased through systemic oppression and denied memory. Through archival research, testimonies, and cultural mapping, the exhibition reveals powerful stories of Roma resistance: in camps, forests, towns—and through survival, motherhood, protest, art, and remembrance.

“Roma resistance is not a footnote in history. It is a living, ongoing process of reclaiming dignity, agency, and a Roma future.” – Timea Junghaus, ERIAC Executive Director

Curated by: ERIAC

The exhibition is part of ERIAC’s Roma Art of Resistance program, co-funded by the European Union and implemented by the Council of Europe.

The exhibition is presented in cooperation with the Documentation and Cultural Centre of German Sinti and Roma, Fnasat – Gens du Voyage, Médiathèque Matéo Maximoff, La Voix des Rroms and Ternype – Youth Association.

ERIAC is part of the Roma Foundation for Europe Network, together with the Roma Education Fund, Roma Entrepreneurship Development Initiative, and the Roma for Democracy Organisation.
