Joint European Union – Council of Europe Programme – EQUIROM is organising a webinar for journalists and media professionals focused on Roma history to improve the portrayal of Roma people in the media in collaboration with the Council of Europe Observatory on History Teaching in Europe. The event will take place online on 11 December 2024, 14:00-15.30 and will be conducted in English only.
The purpose of the event is to raise awareness about Roma history and culture among journalists, aiming to deconstruct stereotypes and combating antigypsyism and discrimination. It will present a valuable opportunity for journalists and media representatives to learn key facts and dates on Roma history. Additionally, the webinar will serve as a platform for journalists to discuss the importance of fact-checking, the use of an accurate and non-discriminatory language, and combating fake news, to be able to portray Roma in an ethical way.
