On December 5–6, 2024, the European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture (ERIAC) hosts the Roma Art of Assembly at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin, a hybrid event bringing together members, partners, and supporters to celebrate Roma heritage, culture, and the collective power of the Roma community. The Roma Art of Assembly stands as a proclamation of unity and an inspiring call to create and share a nurturing space.
To share the joy of togetherness and connect with our broader community, the Roma Art of Assembly ceremony on December 5th will be livestreamed on ERIAC’s Facebook page and YouTube channel, starting at 19:00.
The Assembly will begin with an opening program that features key addresses from notable figures. Dr. Anna Lührmann, Minister of State for Europe and Climate at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, will deliver a video message highlighting the significance of supporting Roma rights and cultural recognition. Following her message, Mr. Zeljko Jovanovic, Chairman of the ERIAC Board and Director of the Roma Foundation for Europe, will present the keynote, reflecting on the Assembly’s mission and the collective power of the Roma cultural movement.
Prominent Roma musicians Bajsa Arifovska, Harmelogic Duo, Zea and Aldessa will set the tone of the evening and capture the energy and spirit of the Roma culture.
- Zea (Alžběta Ferencová) from the Czech Republic, will perform accompanied by Antonín Dlapa on guitar and Peter Hrncirik on cajón.
- A live concert by Bajsa Arifovska, from North Macedonia, blending traditional Macedonian instruments with world music, alongside the Slovenian piano and percussion duo Harmelogic.
- A DJ set by Aldessa, a Roma feminist and artist from Romania whose music and activism amplify Roma voices, will conclude the event
The evening will feature the highly anticipated launch of the newly elected Barvalipe Academy, ERIAC’s advisory and strategic body. This introduction will be led by Ms. Timea Junghaus, Executive Director of ERIAC, who will outline the Academy’s role in shaping the organization’s future.
Adding to the celebrations, the Assembly will honor the achievements of the ROMHERITAGE project, a Creative Europe initiative dedicated to establishing a Roma cultural heritage route in partnership with organizations from Spain, Slovenia, and Italy.
The Roma Art of Assembly offers participants—whether attending in person or online—a unique opportunity to engage with the Roma cultural movement, gain valuable insights, and celebrate the achievements of Roma artists, activists, and cultural leaders.
This assembly, a converge of hearts and minds committed to Roma heritage, culture, and inclusion, is supported by the Council of Europe, German Federal Foreign Office, Open Society Foundations, and the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (CERV) of the European Union.
